Day 32 washout Wanaka, the rain, toys and transport

Feb 1
We woke to pouring rain but the forecast said it would clear by 10 leaving strong winds. Sounded reasonable for canyoning, at least there  would  be some water in the canyons!
We were ready to go when the message  came through -no canyoning today but we could  rebook onto an easier  one the next day or our original choice on Friday or get a refund. We decided we'd  rebook for the next day and then do the 5 hr journey to Fox glacier through the Haast pass as soon as we had finished at 5pm. We contacted our next accommodation to check a late arrival  was ok and then sorted out accomodation for Nelson, Hokitita and Wellington, the ferry crossing and jade carving. We got all our washing done and hung up to dry since our flat had a washing  machine and then looked up petrol stations and supermarkets. We might not be canyoning but we were being productive.
The rain kept coming down.
We headed off to find cheap petrol and then to visit the toy and transport museum. This was spread over 4 hangars. It should really be called the museum of toys, transport and everything else as well.

China dolls mostly in scenes

It was an eclectic mix of many, many things and after the first hangar of (mostly) toys, the next three were ( mostly) cars, aeroplanes, boats, bikes, scooters, fire engines, wheelchairs, ......
Trains

Barbie back when she could be things other than glamorous ( but no Sindy dolls)

Remember these?View finders

Star wars

Asterix

Had to be lego, there was also meccano

Smurfs

Lots of rubbers and pencil sharpeners

Jono wandered about muttering car names with a dazed expression of delight. I could tell you there was a range of colours and an aeroplane that was used as a flying brothel (it's weird which bits stick!) and that's about it.
Cars

More cars

More cars and an aeroplane ( not the flying brothel one)

Many many more cars

Fire engines
Here are just some of the weird items stacked amongst the others that are neither transport or toys....
Tills and money sorters ( also money )

Mobile phones (and land line phones)

Just not sure but things were piled everywhere

In the truck there was a wheelchair, plant and various cans. We saw vacuum cleaners, scales, radios, film projectors, empty bottles and loads of other stuff.

Chrysler( I remember this one!)
We did spend a couple of hours here before leaving to get food shopping. As it appeared that everyone  else also wanted food, the car park was full, cars were everywhere  we couldn't park so we abandoned  the idea and went back to the flat.
We tried again later, after we had eaten, with more success. The rain was still coming  down and we both wondered  if canyoning  would be on the next day. We had to move on though. If it couldn't  happen the next day, we couldn't  do it. At least we had a good supply of food,a car full of petrol and clean clothes!
